A new post in a new year

No public updates in awhile, I know. It’s not that there’s nothing to write about. There is so much to write about, and that seems to be the issue.

But for now: Life is good. I love my friends. I love my family. I love my education. I am very fortunate, and in a million different ways. The end.

PS, there will be more soon.

How to make Facebook better

Assuming you already have, use, and love Firefox installed, this tutorial is going to teach you how to make the most of Facebook using a few custom tweaks that are easily downloadable.

Things to install in Firefox:

Firefox add-on Greasemonkey (This will ask you to restart Firefox, so do that)

Greasemonkey script FFixer

How I configure FFixer (You may tweak it a little differently to your liking):

Breathing air again

Autumn and winter flood my mind with connotations of relaxation coupled with enjoyment of a cool breeze of northern air blowing across my chilled, wind-burnt face. Today’s weather has especially aroused these thoughts of wintry weather. It’s harsh and it’s beautiful, two experiences not often thought of in unison.

This sounds really silly, I know, but the thought of winter coming is the most calming thing for my mind. Sure this whole seasonal thing is an ever looping cycle of weather changes, but the wait for each season’s presence to arrive is an incredible experience for me. The transition stirs my soul and awakens me to God’s creation at work. Once it is here, every thing seems more calm.

Which brings me to this thought.

In our culture, most of life is so sped up and hurried. We are a very goal oriented society whose inhabitants are all heading on some road, to some place, for some reason. Day-to-day life is fast paced. It’s often repetitive and routine, and I think from time-to-time we all get drained and worn out in the process. We try to maintain so many activities and responsibilities to the point we’re overloaded. We try to be in control. It can be an exhausting chase.

For me winter reveals a very human trait we all have, yet less often embrace: our lack of control in life. We avoid adventure. I just love how it seems God uses winter to slap me in the face year after year, and I love it. Cold weather, ice, snow. These all scream that God is in control and that we aren’t. Iced-solid snow drifts covering our front doors keeping us inside. Slick roads make us think about our driving habits a bit more, maybe. (When in slick, empty parking lots however…) These are some things which constantly make evident to me that God is outstanding and beautiful, and so is his creation.

The basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being.

Romans 1:19-20

Thank you, Creator God, for your truly beautiful creation we get to enjoy.
